Have you ever wanted to try Linux?

Hi All, today I will share with you something that got my full attention yesterday while browsing the net. As many of you I always wanted to know more and ultimately to try OS Linux but for one reason or another I never got to do it. The main barriers to it were caused from my concerns that loading Linux on my PC would get it to stop working as it would cause conflict with Windows. The other barrier was constituted by a sort of loyalty to MS Windows as it was my first operating system and as savvy people might say “you never forget your first love!”
Yesterday came across to a very good website Linuxlive usb which is fully dedicated to the creation of bootable and portable Linux application on usb keys. Initially what got my attention was the slogan “Not only for geeks” which sounded somewhat reassuring as I certainly do not consider myself a geek but only a good pc user and an avid internet user. Not that being geek is wrong in any way, but I do not understand or enjoy those articles in technical blogs too full of jargon and programming words. So if you are like me, this is the site for you and if you are a geek it is as well!!
To get started all you need is a USB key with 2GB of free space and you are well on your way to discover Linux.
I actually have downloaded the application on my SD card instead of an USB key as it sits into the provided slot into my laptop without forcing me to carry another bit of equipment.
The OS comes into its portable version which means that you can run it from the USB key or SD card without having to copying it to the PC hard drive. Effectively you could possibly run it on any computer with a USB slot giving you the freedom to use it potentially on any machine either at home or at work.
Along with Linux you will be downloading Virtual Box from Oracle which is virtualization software, as the name says. This software will allow you to create a virtual environment on your computer allowing you to run an additional Operating System on your Windows or Mac pc.
I have used the Linuxlive usb on my Windows 8 laptop and works perfectly. I followed the well detailed instructions and in minutes I made my first encounter with Linux and, I have to say, it was a very pleasant one….but I will tell you about it another time. Happy Linux to All.
